Blue flags
 Every year at the end of May, the Municipality of Melivoia is awarded for its beaches with the Blue Flag. Specifically, in the summer of 2006, the beaches that were awarded the Blue Flag were: Coast Velika (Spitaki), Coast Ano Sotiritsa, Coast Agiokambos 1 and Coast Agiokambos 2. For the summer of 2007 there were 3 nominees (Coast Velika (Spitaki), Coast Agiokambos 1 and Coast Agiokambos 2) which await their award.  The coordinator of the programme "Blue Flags" for coasts and marinas is the non-Govermental, non-profitable Organization "Foundation for Environmental Education" (FEE). In Greece, the national operator of the Programme is the Greek Company for the Protection of Nature (EEPF). The programme "Blue Flags" started in France in 1985. It has been running through Europe since 1987 and outside Europe since 2001. Today countries from all over the world take part in the programme.

 The programme promotes the vital development at the coastal areas aiming at the high quality of the water, the safety of the swimmers, the environmental management and education. It connects tourism and education at a local, regional and national level. The Blue Flags today are considered an international symbol of quality and organized beaches.

The criteria of the programme are divided in four groups:
* Environmental education and information
* Quality of the water
* Environmental management
* Safety, lifeguards, first-aid, services and facilities.
